They say that "necessity births innovation" and Tzapos - The Flying Hairdressers is a true testament to that fact. This new retail concept from Munich-based master hairdresser, Konstantinos Tzapos, came about when he noticed that although his customers loved visiting the salon,  they very often found it difficult to carve out the time in their busy schedules to do so. His thought was to bring the high-quality salon to them so, and starting in November,Tzapos - The Flying Hairdressers' first hair salon/van (more are to follow) will be bookable via an app.
Approaching Designliga,Bureau for Visual Communication and Interior Design, with his concept was providential, as the Designliga team immediately knew how to make all aspects of Konstantinos' vision a reality. As befits an avid surfer, travelling to seek out the best waves around is second nature to Konstantinos Tzapos, who fittingly studied automotive mechatronics but found his niche in hairdressing and worked his way through the ranks in a number of high end salons. But now, when he starts the engine of hisChevy step van it's to make waves… or whatever his clients ask of him to do with their hair! This one-stop salon might be small, but it offers everything a cutting-edge salon might, from hair styling and coloring services, to providing advice and selling hair products.

The graphic style of 1960's era illustrations became the creative starting point for the illustrated locks of hair playfully waving along the sides of the gray-painted van. Of course, the logo and contact info take center stage on all four sides of the van and also feature on the inside of the back doors - so that they are visible for possible clients when the doors are opened.
Warm, natural elements are the highlights in the interior, with the walls, floor and roof completely fitted in a honey-colored, European maple wood, making the van feel very welcoming and homey. The driver's seat is covered in a light gray leather - similar to the shade used on the van's exterior - while a small waiting area beside the driver’s seat boasts a violet covered cushion and a stack of magazines beside a large coffee maker - both staples in any fine salon.

In the back is where the actual "magic" happens. A large, old-fashioned barber’s chair, a black leather and stainless steel construction, is the obvious star of the setting. Concealed around it in various ingenious ways is a sink - which pulls open behind the chair, when needed - as well as many leather handles, mounts and fixtures to hold the hairdresser's tools of trade - think brushes and styling products. Adding warmth to the space is a modern interpretation of a kilim on the floor directly below the chair - this one however being vinyl covered and featuring razors, surfboards and coffee cups in its design - while a skylight above allows plenty of natural light to flood the small space.
Another saying that applies toTzapos - The Flying Hairdressers' van is that "good things come in small packages." And it looks like this one is ready to take over where others can't go, and always in search of (creating) that perfect wave!
